Hibou, Beebs, BeeBoo, Boober, Hindu, Bush Baby, Baby Cat, Keeten

It's been about a year now since I got Hibou back from my mom's house where she was living while I was in France. Please excuse this annoying display of pet-love. These are some of my favorite pictures of her from the last year.

Gravel Path, Wooden Floors, Video in my Mind

Few things make me happier than my cat. That's gushy and sentimental I know, but it's true. I took these shots today because I felt like my Dailybooths have been a bit lacking in creativity. Also..I took them because I have been thinking about these images in a roundabout way in my head for the past week or so. Im getting the Nikon D90 soon. It shoots HD video and I already have the first video planned out that I want to do but I will have to shoot some footage here and some in France. The part that is most vivid in my mind is me walking up the gravel path barefoot, in my nightgown, really early in the morning and coming all the way inside, up the crooked stairs, and into my little attic room and getting back into bed. This will all make sense months from now when I post the finished video. Right now its just a seed in my head. An inspiring seed the is pushing me to photograph again and spend that hard earned cash on another camera.

Boober and Mommy's last photobooth of 2008

I managed to engage Hibou is one last photoshoot of 2008 before I go gussy myself up for the wolves of 2009. Sorry for the greasy hair in these pictures, I am getting to the shower I promise.

So for this first one I told her to smile. She didn't seem to be too enthused by my smile so this was all I got from her.

Ok at this point CJ has come in the room and she is getting embarrassed. I told her to look cutely innocent..she just looks pissed that CJ is in our room.

"Ok now show some 'tude Boober..but not too much, we still want people to love us"

Happy New Years my dear readers. Don't shame yourselves and I will try not to too.

Happy Home Day to Boober!

I don't know when your birthday is little Hibou, I'm sorry, but this is around the time I took you in as a little stunted ketten so we can celebrate this day instead.

You were such a wee little crack baby :) Im sorry I let you get fat. Happy Hibou Day

Drawing Class Update

As promised I am keeping you updated on my progress in my drawing class. We just finished this skeleton drawing and I have to say I'm kinda proud of myself. It's no masterpiece for sure but it's probably some of my best work so far as far as proportions go. So hurrah!

Every time I went to take a picture of this Hibou hopped up right in front of me to nuzzle the camera, crazy little attention needy princess. So I honored her with her own picture in which she totally plays the part of the demented little crack baby that she is. Thank you boober!

Soon to come will be a drawing of one of my classmates :cringe:

Oh the things one learns at school

Tuesday I had my first economics class (which I am apprehensive about...anything that involves math makes me apprehensive) and the teacher walks in and says "Ok I hope you are all here for the Math 123 class."....huh? we're all looking around at each other and people are starting to get their things together as they realize they are in the wrong room until the teacher pulls a "JK!" Buster...you do not want to mess with me when math is involved. So then he goes on to joke about how the first day automatically calls for the first quiz, and is everyone ok with that. Of course we all just stare dumbly at him, and he says, "ok well we wont do that quiz then. You will find that this class is not a monopoly" pause...pause....pause...he's looking around the room, and i'm looking at him wondering what he's talking about...wait here it comes "its a democracy!" Wait what? it's not a monopoly its a democracy? Tell me I'm not being crazy...that doesn't make sense right? He's mixing business terms with types of governments and I'm supposed to know what he's talking about?! And he's going to be instructing me for the next 15 weeks! Oh la!
Speaking of the next 15 weeks, here is what Boober (Hibou) and I have to look forward to for the next 15 weeks of drawing

while I am getting better I still really don't enjoy drawing and i especially don't enjoy drawing people (or skeletons). But don't worry I'll keep you updated and let you see all the embarrassing alien shaped people I draw.

Also, I had my first speech class today (scary!) but the guy seems really cool. He was living/working in New Orleans when Katrina hit and lost everything (poor guy) so he came home to West Virginia and is teaching a bit. But! He took pictures of each of us individually before we were allowed to leave...so he could "remember us." Certainly not so he could track us down for missing a class or stalk us and steal our houses (mean joke, not his fault he doesn't have a house), but really...kinda creepers.

And also here is the picture of the camera strap I made, full length. Bad pictures but you can see the front and back

I plead guilty...but its the bacon's fault really!

Hibou humored me with a photoshoot over breakfast

Its been a long weekend, and that means bad eating habits :( I worked two doubles and a hostess shift ( as a favor, which will not happen again) this weekend which means 5 meals at Kazu in 3 days. Don't get me wrong, their food is no doubt all that and a bag of chips (do you all remember saying that? no? just me?) but its rich food and its really messes up my normal eating schedule. And plus! The last few days I have been on a egg and bacon kick..once I open the bacon pack I just can't stop thinking about it! So today I went back to my basics with a simple breakfast of fresh raspberries, organic applesauce, a small brie sandwich (thanks jon) and OJ. I like to eat lots of fresh, raw, simple food when I'm not planning full scale meals for jon and myself. Next on my list is bread. I have been really negligent in my bread making... but to defend myself a little...where can you find cracked wheat! I have been wanting to make a bread with cracked wheat and just cannot find the stuff!

PS. yesterday was Riz (the sushi-man) Aaron (the manager) and Kazu (the owner) 's birthday...3 in one day in our tiny restaurant! So I made brownies this morning to celebrate. Kazu says I will make a good housewife one day...gee fanks

Catnip Oil

So a few new things I have learned. According to Body and Soul magazine, Catnip Oil is thought to be "10 times more effective against mosquitoes than DEET." I was thrilled to hear this because mosquitoes flock to me like Shepherdstown hippies to the river ( i tease i tease) so anything to get them no to choose me first as their prey I will try. But, DEET is pretty serious stuff - it has been linked to birth defects and degeneration of the nervous system and other scary stuff like that. Body and Soul suggests a mixture of 6 drops of Catnip Oil to 3 ounces of water sprayed liberally over exposed skin.
Here is my question. Will my cat maul me when I come home? What is it exactly about Catnip that cats get high off of, and is it the same thing in Catnip Oil. I assumed it was the smell but I couldn't say for sure. I went to Crafty Bastards in Silver Spring with Pang a few weeks ago and bought a little catnip filled mouse/elephant (you look at the picture and tell me what its supposed to be!) and the girl who made it confided to me that the catnip inside was the "chronic of catnip." When we first got the mouse/elephant it was a beautiful shade of green that has now degenerated into its current state. But....Hibou didn't writhe and spasm as I had hoped....did she sell me a mouse/elephant shaped pouch of grass clippings? I feel cheated....

Hello World!

So my friend Pang inspired me to start a blog with her cute little blog
   Pretty Little Fings
So Hibou (my cat and constant companion when she isn't brooding) and I will be documenting our lives here from this day onward.  Here are some pictures of us to get you acquainted.  This was back in December so we both look a little different now but you get an idea of our relationship I'm sure.
This was just shortly after I got my Mac so we were studiously learning the ins and outs of my power machine which was oh-so-necessary for my photographic endeavors.
Hibou was a tiny little kitten that my friend found on the side of the highway who is now my affectionately feral crack-baby. When I first got her she used to love to perch on my shoulder (she's way to big now for me to support this habit) and she has giant staring yellow eyes - both of which contributed to her name: Hibou, which is French for owl.
We have had our rough patches, like when I "abandoned" her for two weeks when I went to France and got the silent treatment for a week or so after coming back. By silent treatment I mean running away from me and constantly showing me her butthole instead of her face. But despite all this we are the a close-knit pair who always enjoy a good book - well actually Hibou enjoys kneading my gut, laying on my arms and purring in my face, and rearranging herself 5 millions times - while I read.
